TWO DAYS RESIDENTIAL CAMP

FOR NSS Volunteers OF MALAPPURAM DISTRICT

REPORT

The NSS Cell of Directorate of Vocational Higher Secondary Education in association with Kerala AIDS Control Society conducted two days residential camp based on ‘Adolescent Education Programme’ from 2nd to 3rd October 2009 at GVHSS Makkaraparamba. The inauguration session was colourful by the presence of distinguished guests on the stage. The District Programme Co-ordinator Sri. Santo Jose welcomed the chief guests and gave the volunteers an overall idea regarding the camp. Sri. Saleem Kuruvambalam, Standing committee chairman – Health & Education, Malappuram Dist Panchayath inaugurated the function. The panchayat members, resources persons, programme officers were some of the distinguished personalities who felicitated our inaugural function.

The first session was by Sri.Suresh Babu, Resource Person. He handled the session ‘Life Skills’ in an attractive way. The classes attracted attention of the volunteers because it was interactive. The heart felt words from the resource person thoroughly changed the attitude of the volunteers in many ways. In the afternoon session the boys and girls were separated in to two groups. The sessions “Growth & Development of Adolescence” were handled by Smt.Shakkeela for girls and Sri.Gopakumar for boys. They continued the topic reproductive system.

After the supper, we celebrated the cultural programmes. The evening of the camp was melodious and beautiful; the volunteers expressed their creative and innate talents with great satisfaction.

The next day morning there was a counselling class followed by meditation. This programme made the volunteers more confident to face the crucial situations in their life. The volunteers took a pledge against suicide.

After the breakfast we conducted a group discussion on the topic ‘Adolescent Issues and solutions’. Sri. Santhoshkumar was the moderator of this session. After a short break we have a session based HIV & AIDS. This session was enriched by the presence of Sri. Muhammed Kattuppara (NRHM co-ordinator Perinthalmana). He spent his valuable time with the volunteers and he cleared their doubts. This helped to get an awareness of AIDS and he shared his experienced with the volunteers.

The afternoon session was about the implementation of AEP through NSS by Sri Santo Jose. The volunteers conducted a group discussion and took a decision to implement the programme on their school effectively. In the evening the volunteers returned to their homes with great pain in their heart. These two days camping programme was effective, memorable and attractive. We express our sincere gratitude to NSS Cell, Kerala State AIDS Control Society and the staff of GVHSS, Makkaraparamba who gave the whole heartedly supported to conduct such a programme.
